Penile Implants or Ed drugs - Viagra, Cialis, Levitra

The most common erectile dysfunction treatments include oral erectile dysfunction drugs (Viagra, Cialis, Levitra), penile injections and medications inserted in the uretra. However in case all other types of erectile dysfunction treatment do not work or are not applicable due to certain medical conditions penile implants may be recommended. Penile implants for erectile dysfunction treatment were first introduced only recently and still penile implants are not widely used.

Penile implants may be either malleable or inflatable. Malleable penile prostheses are simpler and consist of malleable rods embedded into the penis. Now the penis is constantly semi-rigid and when you need to perform a sexual intercourse you need to lift and adjust the penis and that’s all. But more males choose inflatable prostheses as an inflatable prosthesis allows the male to get an erection at any time he wants and moreover inflatable prostheses are less noticeable.

Inflatable penile implants consist of two cylinders embedded into the body. One cylinder is the pump and the other one is a reservoir connected to the pump by tubing. Besides, there’s a reservoir for liquid. To start the process the man presses on the pump that initiate the transportation of liquid to the cylinders in the penis. Cylinders are inflated and erection occurs. To stop the erection and make the penis flaccid again the man should press on a deflation valve that return the liquid to the reservoir.

A lot of men care whether penile implants are noticeable. In fact when a penile prosthesis is implanted the man can see small scars at the base of the penis but the scars can hardly be seen by other people. Therefore those who see you in the public restroom or in a locker room won’t be able to tell that you have a penile implant.

Still, penile implants for erectile dysfunction treatment are not recommended until that is the only way to treat impotence. Like any other surgery penile implants may cause complications:

  • Bleeding after the surgery (re-operation may be required)
  • Infection may get into the body
  • Scars
  • Erosion of tissue around the implant
  • Mechanical failure of the device (re-operation and removal is required)
Most men (about 90%) feel satisfied with their penile implants and the sexual life they are able to lead again. But once the penile implant was embedded the great majority of males are not able to achieve natural erections. If the penile prosthesis is removed the man is very likely not to be able to achieve a natural erection ever in his life.
